Internet, Media and Technology Safety

This is an in-class workshop for students grades 4-7.   It covers a variety of topics related to internet safety, media and technology.  It is meant to be an overview to help students become more aware of the risks and effects of the internet, media and technology on their lives, as well as how the actions of others may affect them.  Preventative topics will be covered, as well as responses to different situations.  It’s important to get students involved and active, talking and working on things while participating in order to retain the information best.   A variety of interactive methods will be used throughout the session.

  • Risks (including pressure, addiction, obsession)
  • Personal Information
  • Rules of Thumb (including information is forever and difficult to remove/erase)
  • Online chatting & gaming
  • Social Media (settings to protect, consequences of actions, etc.)
  • Images and Videos
  • Cyber bullying
  • Physical effects (posture, eyes, sleep)
